Sounds very similar to one we had in Jerusalem a few years ago. By the time you figured out what was going on, it was mostly over, and you really remember more in hindsight than being concious of what was happening at the time.
I was on the phone to a travel agent, and I remember her saying "is this an earthquake" and my reply was "yes, yes, but what time does that flight come in?"!
