Everyone I know has already signed the petition to prevent the UK government depriving 30 million listeners of a huge variety of drama and programming from around the world. So I'm hoping some of you will feel moved to add your signature.
Many well-known celebrities have already signed the original petition including Dame Judi Dench, David Suchet, Emma Fielding, Jeremy Irons, Juliet Stevenson, Ken Loach, Miriam Margolyes, and Sir Richard Eyre. It's also on FaceBook.
World drama has contributed so much over the years, not least writers who go on to mainstream screenwriting.
The World Service is the only branch of the BBC which has traditionally been funded directly by the government via grant-in-aid through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and is the UK equivalent of America's Radio Free Europe.
Now its very existence is threatened by recently announced government cuts.
Please visit this link to read more, including the open letter, which was published in the Sunday Times on 30 January. Then please add your signature. The deadline is 11 February 2011.
Many thanks in advance.

That seems extremely unlikely. |

It's one of those things that I don't use myself, but I think is worth the funding. The government bang on about a 'big society' and yet can't wait to cut these services and adopt an entrenched little Englander mentality.
Thanks for the link B.Babe |
