A young man whom my husband knows was killed in the Joplin Home Depot where he sought shelter with his children ages 2 and 5. Even sadder, the children were also killed. He had driven his wife to work at the hospital and was on his way home when she called to warn him to find shelter immediately. She survived, although the hospital was hit and heavily damaged also.
A good friend of mine owns and runs a Bed and Breakfast there with his wife. It was hours till I found out that their home/establishment had missed the destruction by mere blocks. Scary indeed.
