Glad I stayed up for that one (finished at 1.30am). The next two start at 2am but I guess I'll have to watch those as well now... 
Anyway, this is NZ's 2nd World Cup finals appearance, and our best match performance by far; previous results (from 1982) were 5-2, 3-0 and 4-0. So I'll take a 1:1 draw any day.  It seemed clear that Slovakia were the better team, they were faster and more accurate with passing, double the number of goal attempts and corners, solid defence etc but they paid a heavy price for being unable to go for the kill.
Presuming Italy and Paraguay watched that match, I don't think they'll think they have too much to worry about from a team of NZ's class; it'll be Slovakia who're worrying now. They really needed a win there. |

I've called the Slovenia upset, but hadn't expected so many underdogs to succeed too and that still with a number of other groups to be played this round.
Now I'm expecting 4-5 more odd results till the end of 2nd round.

Usually the teams with perfect games early on don't go to hold the golden trophy, so...
On a note, I don't know how Slovakia managed to top it's European qualifying group. So many better European teams should've gotten their spot.

Thanks!  The emphasis is on the word could. Probably won't though, but then again NZ were probably not gonna draw with Slovakia and Italy either.
A win is worth 3 draws so a team really needs a win to progress to the next round, although it's technically possible that 3 draws could be enough. |

Oh man I totally expected Slovenia's missed chances to turn on them.
And the USA - Algeria game looked like it also induced several heart-attacks.
