Heads up, folks, there's another one of those scams doing the rounds. I've received one, and it looks as though wildheartlivie has, too. Actually the scam appears to come from her, claiming she's in the UK and could we please help pay her hotel bill because she's been mugged, blah, blah, blah.
I'm delighted to report that our own whl is fine and not at all involved - and thanks to ChrisC for helping to verify that!
Meanwhile, if you get one of those nasty fakes, just delete it, don't even think of opening it, and ... I know you know this, but ... don't reply in any way.

| I got one. My cousins also had this happen to them. Thing is, since my cousins (who now live in Israel) come from Manchester and could easily have been vacationing, this was a touch more realistic. I immediately realized that the one from whl was a fake! |

Oh crap!!! I just sent her $50,000 to pay for that hotel, along with a stern tongue-wagging about running up pricey hotel bills! I FEEL LIKE SUCH A FOOL!!!!  |

No seriously. It seems that my email account had been hacked and they managed to change the password so I can't actually get in to the account as of yet to reclaim it. I realize something more was going on when I got notice from some people on here who have sent me emails but I had never saved their email addresses to my contact list. Someone went to a lot of trouble to pull out the email address for Gentleman Ghost and a couple others, whose addresses were never on anything except emails I had received through Wikipedia. Personally, I suspect some of Don Murphy's groupies, who have given me grief in the past after he was banned from Wikipedia and turned his x-ray vision specs my way. In any case, for now, I've set up another account in my real name - bapatrick - and have changed the email address on here. Please make note that as of today, wildhartlivie email is non-functioning, though you can contact me by sending a mail through fwfr. I'm a little distraught over this since I have had that particular email account since I got my first computer back in 1995. How many people have the same email address for 16 years?? In any case, I've run the Avast software on my computer twice and the Norton once and as far as I can tell, there is nothing hinky on this computer, except some funky pictures of Johnny Depp in his characters get up from his films. Althought some asswipe has stolen my nearly antique email address. Bugger!!! Sorry for the inconvenience and hope nothing was harmed! Thanks for the concern from everyone and thanks to Benj for his suggestions. |
